Cool Edit v2 on Vista (no sound?)

Hi! I have been using Cool Edit v2 on two separate PCs using Windows Vista. I have a third PC that I installed CE2, but it won't record any sound. All three PCs are exactly the same. It works on the first two. On the third one, when I am recording, I can see it recording white noise/silence but doesn't pick up any voice. There is no squiggly line.

I've checked my cables, I've checked that the microphone is enabled. I've also tried using Realtek HD Audio Manager to record, but it doesn't pick up any sound. I guess it's not a problem with CE2... but I don't know what.

Also, my mic is connected to a device that connects to the sound card. It is a headset used for answering phone calls.

down grade, woops i mean up-grade from vista to XP and install a fresh copy of adobe audition..wa-la

not recording on time

when i try recording my vocals seem like there going faster then the beat even when i rap on key with the metrondome they always record off beat and sombody please help me. thanks!
