I know this is a CE Pro forum, but maybe someone can help me. I have CE 2000 on my computer. I just bought a new one and wanted to transfer it to it. The site says it is no longer in existance. Does anyone know how I can get from my old computer to my new one? If not is it worth the $99 upgrade to the new one? I need to record a max of 4 tracks. Thanks Walter

Walter, do you have a CD burner?

If so, you can go into Windows Explorer on your first computer and find CE 2000, and burn a copy to CDR or CDRW. Then use the CD to reinstall CE 2000 on the new computer.

Alternately, if the CE 2000 setup file isn't too big, I suppose you could email it to yourself as an attachment, and then open it up in the new computer to install it.

I actually had a very similar issue with my Cool Edit 2000. I had installed a new drive, and put XP on it. I now had a dual boot machine.
However, I wanted to run CE2K from the XP partition (while it was installed on the Win98 drive). No go. Was looking for registry entries that weren't in the XP registry.
Ultimately, I had to re-install CE2K on the XP drive. That involved the original CD, as well as all the codes to enable the software packages. I was lucky I had the disk, and I had a copy of the codes - so many other things are 10,000 km away in storage, that I thought I was screwed. I really like Cool Edit 2000 !

Give dobro's suggestion a try, but it may result in the same problem as I had - missing registry entries, if setup can't be run properly.

Good luck, and let us know what happens !

Cheers,
Mike

thanks guys for the replies. I put a delta 66 soundcard on the new computer and couldn't figure out how to run it, so I took it to the local recording/sound store. The owner was very supportive of the 66, but had nothing but bad things to say about all the CE versions. He said the 66 will never shine with CE. He is setting the 66 up for me and is installing a trial version of Samplitude classic. I am going to try put my CE to disc and load it on the new computer. It has Xp. If all goes well, I am going to be able to compare the 2 and go from there. Thanks! I will let you all know what happens. Walter

Yup.

Back up all disks and put the backup in a safe place. Write all necessary registration numbers on the backup disk. Keep a file and make a note of things you need to remember about installing and running the program.

Computers...

Here is the verdict. I decided to buy Samplitude master 6.0. The local recording store had it for $300. I sold my cool edit 200 for $50 to a friend. The Samplitude program is very cool. The owner of the shop spent all afternoon with me, and I have the basics down. I guess my days of cool edit are just a memory.............. Thanks guys! Walter
