Cool Edit 2000, Pings on Click Removed File

I'm trying to transfer music from my turntable to my laptop using Cool Edit 2000 and the transferred music contains annoying pings and pongs. I thought it might be incoming E-Mails or popups but have disabled everything I can think of. See follow up letter.

I've just discovered that the initial cooledit files are clear of pings and pongs. They are added when I use the clicks and pops removal feature.

Are you getting the noise profile from a section of the recording with no audio?
On maximum removal, the thing does make strange tinkling noises. This is actually normal and you should reduce the removal strength until these artifacts are minimal.
