Convolution reverb: the real deal?

Are they really that much better than regular 'verb plugs?
 
It just depends on exactly what you want. Spaces, yeah. Plates or vintage springs, not really.
 
My use of verb is almost always in trying to just slightly enhance the existing natural room sound. Convolution verbs can do that pretty well. I haven't found a non-convo software verb that does it as well as SIR.

Yep, definitely spaces. I can never seem to nail that sweet, subtle space verb on a big intimate vocal. I'm doing some piano/vocal (female singer) sessions in a couple weeks. I've recorded her before, and all she needs is a touch of compression and then a hint of that Celine Dion reverb...which I don't get from my current plugs or rack gear...:(
