I am having trouble converting MIDI to audio. I muted all the other tracks, except for the destination track for the audio (which is set to record.)

I tried to "bounce to clips" and then "bounce to tracks" but nothing happens and it says the track conatins no audio (obviously, because it's midi.) when i try to record it all i see is a red line with no audio.

the midi track is set up:

input: Omni
Output:1-Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth

the destination audio track is (currently) set up:

Input: Stereo Aux Realtek High Definition Audio
Output: None

I assume the midi tracks output should be the same as the audio tracks input however the only option i can use that way is

Midi-
Input: VSampler3 DXi2Synth 1

Which makes me hear no midi at all...

Audio-
Output: VSampler3 DXi2Synth 1

Which removes the record button on the audio track
so this isnt a viable option.

if anybody can help, id really appreciate it.

You don't mention what program you're using.

Sounds like you need a VSTi to generate the audio.

I'm using Sonar 3 P.E.

I can write and hear midi, but i cant convert it.

When you use the 'bounce to track' option to render a MIDI track as audio, you need to highlight the MIDI track (and leave it unmuted). You do not need to mute the other tracks. Also, the bounce dialogue will give you option of creating a new track, so there's no ned to arm an audio track for recording.

That said, if you are routing your MIDI track to Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth it's like routing it to an external keyboard, i.e. the resulting audio is rendered outside of Sonar. In this case, you have to record the audio in Sonar by routing your synth output (in this case your soundcard out) to your audio input and setting up a track to record that source.

Alternately, can you use the Vsampler DXi2Synth to get a sound you want from your MIDI track? (setting the MIDI track's output to an audio track with the Vsampler dxi... softsynth loaded). If so, then you can use the 'bounce to track' option as the synth is running in Sonar.
