Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to convert music files (MP3s) back onto
cassette. What connecting cables do I need, how do I hook them to my sound card and
cassette recorder (sony boom box), and what, if any software do I use? I have TDK and
Windows Media Player. This is probably a no-brainer, but I can't seem to figure it out.
Thanks.

now here is something you don't see everyday... :)

the engineers here will probably ask you to play your mp3s through a Marshall amp and mic'em with a SM57 15degree off the center! :D :D :D

actually one of the ways is to get a cable with phono jacks on one end(red and white connectors) and a 1/8" stereo jack on the other end.

connect the1/8" jack to the audio out of your soundcard and the phono jacks to the AUX-IN of your boombox. play the mp3 and press record on your boombox. That should do the trick. :)

if you still dunno what cable I am talking about, here's a pic... can get them in Radioshack.

Thanks!

Dear Leeking:
Thank you so much for your reply to my question. I will be going out tomorrow to get that cable. I got a new car, and alas, no cd player, just cassette. It was pretty cool to get a reply from such an exotic locale--Malasyia. I'm in the US--NY to be exact. I have pics of your country on my Webshots--it certainly is beautiful!
Oh yeah--that engineer joke went right over my head but I guess that's the point--laughed anyway!
Thanks again, Linda

No problem!

Glad to help....

I was in Toronto last year for a while and went to visit Niagara Falls. simply awesome! if I had cross the bridge, it would be Buffalo, which is in NY state, right?

have fun with your new car! :)

NY STATE OF MIND

Hey Leeking--
Yes, the other side of the falls is Buffalo NY, which is about 400 miles west of me. I'm in the Capital District of Albany. Been there myself, the falls are awesome!
Got the cable today, and will be attempting the process later on. I think I'm going to stick to cassettes in the car, since a cd player and/or changer makes your car more of a theft target.

Can't be too careful in NY. Someday, I hope to see your part of the world. Just curious, what is the language of Malaysia?

Linda

The national language of Malaysia is Bahasa Melayu... it is spoken in Singapore and Indonesia as well.... other main languages in Malaysia is English and Chinese...

so you won't have any language problem coming to Malaysia. :)

Stratus Girl,
If you have a portable CD-player, you can get a tape that has a 1/8" plug attacted to it that plugs into the headphone out on you porta CD-player and then you stick the tape in the tape deck and you can listen to the CDs through you car stereo. :)

You can also get a power supply for your porta CD-player that plugs into your cigarette lighter so you don't go through a ton of batteries.

Yes, yes , yes NY. Oh so beautiful. Oh so bright. Oh so... Okay back to reality.

Stratus, go to musicmatch.com and download it for FREE. After you got it tucked safely into your hard drive, convert the mp3's into .wav files. It will sound better that way. I know you are not using it for a CD player, but if you were you would have to convert to .wav because normal CD players can't play mp3's unless you buy a CD player that CAN play mp3's.

MusicMatch

Wavs vs. MP3s?

Hey Frank--
MusicMatch for converting mp3s to wav? I had MM, it came with my CD burner software, but I unloaded it since it didn't seem to do anything my other programs didn't do, and it was taking up space. I got a nice little freebie program called CDEX that converts wavs to mp3s and visa versa. You can find it on ZDNet.com. I didn't realize that Wavs would record better than the mp3s--I'll have to try it because I wasn't too impressed with the sound quality of the tape I produced. I'll probably end up getting the cd player for the car, but I'll try this first to see if it improves things.
Thanks, Stratusgirl

Just curious, what's the logic behind .mp3's converted to .wav sounding better?
