Converting akai to wav

Does converting an akai disc to wav files result in any quality loss ??
Cause after I convert a disc, the wav files end up being much smaller than the size of the akai disc..

Were the Akai 24 bit files ?
And what bit rate did you convert too ?

the akai were 16 bit, and i converted to 16 bit with cdxtract..
the cd size is 612 mb, and the convert wav files are a total of 99 mb..
I can't really hear a difference between the files .. but then again i'm no engineer.. but why do you think theres such a huge decline in file size ?
