I am testing a 4 track recorder that samples at 32KHz. (Zoom MRS-4
)

When I copy the tracks to my computer and use n-track to convert them to 44.1 alot of hissy/ringing noise gets introduced.

I do not have this problem with tracks that come from the Zoom ps-02 which are sampled at 32150 hz.

I found a work around to the 32K problem, by first converting to 48khz then down to 44.1. When I do this there is no hissing/ringing in the track, but I worry that all the conversions really degrade the sound quality.

How can I use 32khz tracks to mix a song using n-track that I need to burn to CD?

(I'm assuming that I need 44.1Khz to create music CDs)

Any ideas would be apprciated.

n-Track's sample rate converter might not be the best. This is definately a process that can impact your sound quality.

You might try downloading goldwave and see if it doesn't do a better job ( http://www.goldwave.com ).

thanks i'll check it out.

I noticed that converting from 32 to 44.1 in n-track takes a long time whereas converting from 32 to 48 is fast.

I'll check out goldwave.

I have a Zoom MRS-4 and use n-track. I have not experienced the problem you describe.

(Sorry, I realize that's not very helpful to you, but its a fact.)

Gidge, I copy the files using a smartmedia drive from sandisk. I convert them to wav format with the cardmanager utility from zoom and a convert the sample rate in n-track.

Slackmaster2k suggested using Goldwave (http://www.goldwave.com) to do the sample rate conversion. I tried it and the problem is rectified. I will have to do the rate conversion before starting in n-track studio.

Slackmaster2k, thankyou for your suggestion.

DKMurphyPr, I am intriqued but encouraged that you do not have the same issues.

I found a Roland VS-890 harddisk recorder that was very reduced in price. I thought I might have to buy it just to avoid recording at 32Khz. My credit card is now saved.
