Hi,
I really don't understand too much about converters. I was wondering how a converter would be used with a multitrack like a fostex vf16, or if it would even be worthwhile to use it.
I was also wondering about the korg rumour because I read that it had pretty nice sounding converters. I was interested in picking up the rumour for adding external aux effects of reverb pretty much to my fostex, but I don't know how the converters would be utilized in my setup.
thanks,
evt

You need to have some type of digital input on the multitrack recorder. The VF16 has a TOSLINK optical IN that could be used if your external AD converter has TOSLINK OUT. You would have to setup the Fostex to record digital inputs and tell the VF16 to slave to the external converter's clock. Since you would be bypassing the internal preampson the VF16, you would also need an external preamp.

Would it improve your sound? I assume so provided that you were using a decent outboard converter. I'm not sure that a cheap converter would make any difference. Would it be worth the cost? That's another question. A good converter/preamp combination would cost more than you paid for the VF16. You might try posting at VF16.com.
