I've been mixing from my Fostex FD-8 to my Phillips Cd burner for some time now. I've gone analog and with the Fiber-optic. When I go digital, I don't seem to get good hot levels. Am I missing a converter or something? Do you think the human ear can tell the difference in digital, and a good hot analog mix? Thanks.
Digital only can take up to 0dB or sound level. Any farther then that it will clip. Analog can take around 4-5 dB or level.
Better converters and better work clocks = better sound. Lucid converters and word clocks are top of the line converters, but a few hundred dollars each.
