This may not be the right forum for this but here is my questions. I have a bunch of vynil records that I would like to convert to CDs.
There appears to be two approaches; 1. Buy an analog preamp and drive the line in on my audio board. or 2. But a preamp with inteernal A to D that outputs via an USB port. The Ads for # 2 hype the problems with noise, hum, etc if using the PCs internal audio board. DAK2000 advertises a preampmixer for $69 bucks that they claim eliminates hum etc for approach 1. Has anybody out there had success with either approach?

What hardware do you have?

Do you have any hardware currently? Mixer, preamps or a DAW? It would help to know what you have in order for people to make suggestions.

Just take a record player plug it to a mixer with RCA and run the out put to the soundcard. Your board would have to support
-10dbv input.

hey ed

there are quite a few options available...

you could just buy a cheap mixer (which has a pre amp already built in) for your turn table , then take the line out from the mixer to line in on the soundcard, there may be some hum/noise, depending on the quality of the soundcard/mixer.

(darn, link is to long to directly link, you can do a search from this page though for the 2 i listed)

there is the phono preamp studio
and the phono preamp

the studio one costs a bit more then the non-studio
but these are easy ways to go directly into your soundcard without a lot of hassel, i think other companies make these as well

or if you already have a amp setup in some component system you have, just run your turn table line outs into the line ins of the component amps system

the way i do it is this

turn table to mixer then to my main mixer deck, then into my soundcards, there is some hum, but not that noticable after i clean them up a bit, with a pass form noise reduction or something like that

hope some of this was helpful

peace
