convert to unique copy

In multitrack view I recorded a mono guitar track. I wanted to place a copy of that track to track 2 and offset it a little and change the tone. I converted the original track to unique copy and inserted it into track 2. I used edit view to make my tone changes and saved the wave there. When I came back to multitrack view the changes were on the original track as well. How should I do this process to avoid destructive editing?

How about this approach:

Clone the original track in Multitrack by Ctrl-right click-drag to another track.

Then do what you want to the cloned track in Edit View and save it. The first track will remain unchanged.

or click on the wave, and in edit form "select entie waveform"
then go to the toolbar Edit>Copy to New.

A Copy will come up where u can make the changes, in multi u just "Insert a waveform" and it should be right there in that pop up menu, under a different name such as TRack 2.1
