I do this quite often. But, my method is not direct, since I'm actually doing more than just converting from one format to the other. What I do is play the .mp3 file using Windows Media Player, and record it into a new stereo track in my sequencer program. By default, the sequencer records as a .wav file. Now, I usually do other processing of the file. Adjusting volume, adding other effects, etc.. But, the process does convert .mp3 to .wav.

Be aware that it will still be MP3 quality - you probably knew that though.......

There are numerous different free converters if you google it. Many offer good demo versions that you can continue to use indefinitley. The only difference is the full version, which you will need to pay for, allows you to convert multiple tracks (6+ for example) vs (1or 2 at a time) using a demo version.

I actually just downloaded a trial last night for changing aiff files. it called switch and its free. i used to be able to just right click the music file and convert it, but that ability has been lost somewhere in my computer.

If you have any aftermarket sound/video software such as Roxio or Nero, it will let you save the file sin any format. As noted, converting from MP3 to WAV will not improve the sound, but using a sound editor (such as comes with Roxio Easy Media Creator) will let you improve it, somewhat.

In addition to what was said about it still being MP3 quality...if you take that WAV file and convert it back to MP3, the quality loss will be even more, depending on what bitrate you use.
