I'm a performing musician, and I've seen a few people use Ableton Live (which I'm currently using) to control lights during their set.
I've read a few articles on how you'd need to set up a channel in Ableton that just sent MIDI information out the "MIDI out" output on an interface, but how would you then use that MIDI signal to control the lights? Is there a type of signal converter or something that can use that MIDI signal to trigger power to the lights?

Midi is just "Note on, note off" information.
Using a box that sends that on/off info to power relays lets you control lights or any other type of electrical device.

Yup, just look around the lighting suppliers and they have the light interface boxes.
