Ugh. More computer problems...and I get the fastest response from these forums. So much for the "other guys" tech support!
Anyways, I'll start out by saying what I did and the order I did it.
Here are my specs:
Mobo: P4T533-C
Processor: P4 2.4B
Soundcards: SB Live, 2x Aardvark DP2496
RAM: 1024
CDRW: Plextor 24x
DVD: Pioneer (front load)
Old HDD1: 40gig Seagate 2mb cache (OS and files)
Old HDD2: 60gig Maxtor 2mb cache (Audio)
New HDD1: 160gig Hitachi 8mb cache (OS and files)
New HDD2: 160gig Seagate 8mb cache (Audio)
PCI Controller: Promise ULTRA100 TX2 (not installed yet)
Video Card: GeForce3 Ti200
OS: Windows XP Pro
Recording Software: Sonar 2.2XL
1. I backed up everything...to be safe.
2. I installed the controller card in PCI slot 3
3. Put my Old HDD1 (all OS and files intact) and Old HDD2 as Master and Slave respectively both on IDE1 of the controller card.
4. Put my New HDD1 and New HDD2 as Masters on the MOBO's IDE1 and IDE2 respectively...the CDRW and DVD slaved to them.
5. Booted up.
6. Blue Screen of death
7. Stuck in my XP Pro CD and reformatted HDD1.
8. Set up Windows
Windows still shows Old HDD1 as "C" and Old HDD2 as "D", and now shows New HDD1 as "F". New HDD2 is nowhere to be found, though it shows up in Bios.
Also, I am unable to access my files from Old HDD1 "Unauthorized" (I think it's because it was password protected when it was my OS drive)
New HDD1 and New HDD2 are both reading 131gigs in Windows, but the full 160gigs in the Bios.
...So...here are my questions:
1. How do I find my New HDD2?
2. How do I rename and re-assign the drives in Windows?
3. How can I access my files from Old HDD1?
4. How can I utilize see my 160gigs? (I think I have the answer to this one: update my bios and all the Service Packs, but if I'm wrong, please tell me)
5. Do I need to reformat my old drives?
6. Can I set up my controllers for just storage?
I think that's it...I tried to be as detailed as possible.
I give props to y'all who read through this whole thing, and a special thanks to those who respond...solutions or not.
If you visit Seattle...coffee's on me!
