Since my Tascam US-428 looks like its on the verge of going out. (it does everything its supposed too except the control surface isn't working properly)
I figure i'd better look into something else since I can't use it for mixing anymore. Any suggestions... I figure i'd be willing to spend about 500 bux on a new controller and another 500 on a sound card. By the way It must be compatible with cubase and the houston is out of the question.

For a little more than what you've quoted I would look at either the Tascam fw-1884 or the Yamaha 01x.

Control surface and interface all in one.

I have the Tascam and it works great. 8 xlr and 1/4 in with inserts on each channel. Only issue is that you have to run it as a mackie controller in cubase.

Now the Yamaha can run in its default mode in Cubase and includes onboard dynamics. Only issue is there are only 2 xlr inputs but I think at least 6 1/4 ins

Just my 2 cents...

ya i was gonna suggest the fw-1884 as well. definately worth checking out at least.

Control surface for Cubase SL 2.0

Did you find a solution? I'm looking for my first surface controller. After working with a mouse in the mixer, it's obvious this is a necessity. Any opinions on the JL Cooper or CM-10? Likewise I'm trying to keep it under $500.00, not to many bells & whistles just good control of the cubase mixer and faders that don't feel like they have sand in them<G>. Thanks for any advice or opinions on what you've used.

peace...
