What type of plexiglass window would be suitable for sound isolation for drums?

None.
Plexiglas isn't suitable for any kind of isolation.
You need thick, laminated safety glass.
Preferably 2 layers of it. Say one at 1/4" and one at 3/8".

Control Room windows have been covered here in the past.................I suggest using the search function on the term "laminated".............make sure the search covers a 2 or 3 year period of the forum.

New to this place... Thanks for the info. I tried a search on "control window" but only got dimensions not material. I'll try "laminate". Thanks again.

plexiglass

I work for a sign company in Scotland. We use all different types of plastic materials. Plexiglass is another name for Acrylic. I used 2 15mm thick pieces of Acrylic for a control room window which worked quite well. As the other guys are suggesting laminated material, look for a material named Polycarbonate. This is much more tougher than Acrylic, the kind of stuff if you throw a brick at it, it will bounce off and probably knock you out. I will have to try the Polycarbonate myself and see if there is any difference.
Hope this helps you out.

If you're going to suggest polycarb, also warn him how much more expensive it is compared to acrylic or even glass.

Im sure he will find all this out when he does his homework. I thought the safety glass would have been more expensive than the polycarbonate, maybe i am wrong. I am lucky as i get the polycarb for free.

Also I must add, on the wall parallel to your control room window, in the control room itself, I'd recommend marking out the dimenstions of the window onto the wall opposite it and placing a piece of curved plywood opposite to the window so you dont get reflections bouncing between the walls. Of course you could deaden the wall itself, but I prefer to go the plywood route.
If you want to watch an audio treatment video, go to www.realtraps.com and download their stuff. Ethan Winer (one of the owners of RealTraps) made a few interesting videos regarding "nodes" and acoustic treatment... he also mentions a bit about the control room window, which is included in the first video. Check it out.
