Maybe this is a stupid question but I need to be sure.
It´s possible to have basic EQ in the console view??. Something like n-track thing. I mean some view that shows 3 knobs (lo, mid an hi).

Thanks

...Black square on upper side track line. Right click, Insert the plugins into the FX place... Cakewalk 2 Bands EQ is the most basic I found...

;)

Using Console View is like staring into the sun. You will go blind.

Please use Track View. Save your eyes.

I thought he ment directly in the Console View, as a mixer....

Sorry no, that's not possible...

I only use console view now to impress my buddy when he comes over. He thinks watching all the little led`s rise and fall is real cool. and there`s a bunch of faders and stuff to look at.

That's right. It won't alow you to do FX / EQ / Comp or any kind without inserting DirX plug ins on the channel strip... So, it's imposible to have even a basic EQ without DirX plugins like N-Track.

Ps.TamaSabian, would you stop editing the question while I'm typing the answer ? :D

Here's a related question. I have been using the track view exclusively in PA9 and now in Sonar (I use Sound Forge to edit tracks). But I still have to go back to console view to put something like a Mastering Compressor on the Main outputs.

Is there a way to put an effect on the whole project in track view? Or should I be just ignoring that step... outputting to a stereo wave and applying master compression to that in Sound Forge?

Click the button left for the All, Mix, etc. tabs. Make the new part of the window as big as you want... there you go... :)

Do you have the VMains and Bus window pane showing?

If not, you need to click the little square icon to the right of the All/Mix/FX tabs. That will toggle the VMain window on/off.

Once the VMain is showing you can patch an effect onto the Main the same as you would patch an effect onto a track. But instead of effecting just one track, it effects the entire project. That also is where you want to put a volume envelope, for example, to do a fade on the entire song (all tracks simultaneously).

FWIW, however, I usually do anything that I want done to the whole mix in Wavelab after exporting a wave from Sonar. No reason much of it can't be done in Sonar, I just prefer working in Wavelab when dealing with the mix as a whole. Sometimes, however, I will put a limiter on the VMain in Sonar just to make sure the exported wave file doesn't clip anywhere.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for.

Just above All, Mix, FX, I/O there is an hidden frame bar. Raise it up a little bit and you'll see the hidden master output A,B etc. If you use RevealCode in WordPerfect you got the idea. Or you can simply click a small icon with up arrow. The master outputs look the same as the individual track-- there you can insert the effects.

Yeah, this is starting to seem like the Department of Redundancy Department. :D

(for you Monty Python fans)

Your not the only Word'Im"Perfect user out there. Prolly just the only one who will admit to it! We use it here at the office as the standard processing package, so it is still out in the world. LOL!

Yeah, the DORD is where I work!

Why will console view make you go blind anyway? I use a two monitor setup, and I just have the track view in one and the console in the other. Seems to give me the best of both worlds.

That certainly is the DORD. :)

What are you using Console View for that you can't accomplish in Track View?? With dual monitors, I would try and use one for my waveforms and the other for my track controls. In otherwords, split Track View across the two monitors.

Well, during mixing, it can make it easiser to see envelope automations, wtach the faders n such, and effects windows can float there too. Agreed it is not the best use for screen real estate, but I find that splitting tracks across monitors can be kinda wierd. If ya aint done it before, do it and you'll see what I mean. But it ends up being a persoanl preferrence thing. Mostly I have effect windows up so I can tweak settings during playback. The console just ends up being there with my busses and master outs.

Conversley, I find that trying to work on a mix with the track view a bit cumbersome as I have the tracks sized so that the effects and other track controls are not visible. But I could do my stuff from there I suppose. Old habits die hard sometime. I do find that I can do more in track view and am using that more.

I dunno, mebbe it's just me, but I like console view.

DS_Sultan, I do the same as you. I agree: It does make it easier to see the automations. :)

Dual Monitors is a godsent. I feel like I've lost control when I'm using a one monitor setup with Sonar.

I like the Console View, too!

...I hope SONAR next edition will bundle second monitor... For free...
:D
