Greetings all...
I am working on mixing a fairly memory intensive project and was hoping to utilize the VU meters (and peak) in the Console View...
Unfortunately, they are NOT THERE when I playback my audio tracks.
I've toggled the buttons in Console View and no meter appears. I've seen them pictured in the manual and in various screenshots, so I'm *almost* sure I'm not nuts (jury's still out).
Has anyone seen/heard of this?...is it a problem??

Maybe it only works for recording input/outputs (?), but from what I understood from the manual (and the Console Help), it should work on playback too??

heh huh huh ha ha...I'm going iNsAnE!?

(THANKS in advance to all who contribute!)

and on the 7th day, god kicked bill gates' a$$...

When you say they are not there, do you mean they are there but not lit? If so, above the meters, in console view, there are enabling buttons on the console toolbar (view >toolbars, check all of them). They should now work as you want them to.

Also, you should see the meters when working in track view, when you expand the track to maximum size. Can you see those working?

Howzabouts telling us what you's is talkin about, Pahtnah (John Wayne mood today). Cakewalk or SONAR? Cakewalk Pro 9 does not have indvividual playback meters.

Thanx fur yur insight fellers...
(all hail the Duke)

Well, There are NO meters visible--whatsoever. And I've checked every option to show them that I can think of that I can find in the manual thus far. I haven't tried to arm any tracks to see if the meters work for input levels (as I suspect they would appear, but??). I'm only using Cakewalk 9 for mixing, not recording...
So I guess then I'm SOL as far as utilizing any playback meters, aye??

So now...if there are not playback meters, how does one go about "accurately" monitoring the levels/peaks for mixing songs in CW 9 (besides our ears)?!?

hmmm...now where did I put that phone number for the psychic hotline...

thanks again and again.

Howdy, Pahtna (John Wayne again),

Pro Audio9 does not have meters for playback on each channel, and it drove me bonkers. Why they did this, I have no clue. SONAR has fixed this, so maybe it is time to upgrade. I think you are SOL with PA9. Sorry. Give us a group hug, we feel your pain.

Lousy &^@&^$@@ Pro Audio 9, what were they thinking?

David, are you serious, no individual meters in pro 9? What the *&^%!!!!!! How can you set levels? Even the bargain level crappy Cakewalk Express 8.0 had them.

If your mixing totally in PA9, you just have your ears and the main buss meters. I route individual tracks out to my ADATs so Cakewalks output buss meters correspond to individual tracks but I suppose that doesn't help you much. Sorry.

*hrrrmmff*

To say the least, I'm mortified about being forced into mixing without meters...ears alone are not sufficient in the task at hand.

So...any recommendations (besides the Sonar upgrade) like plugins people have/are using?? I don't have the foggiest as to what it will costs to upgrade.

I'ma thinkin maybe I'll be uh mosey'n on over and belly'n on up to the mixing/mastering forum for some advice on this too...I reckon'.
(long live the Duke)

many thanks...

Paul, there are recording meters in PA9 for setting levels, but there are no individual meters upon playback. How stupid.
