Connecting Tascam M-1600 console to Computer

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to connect a Tascam M-1600 console to my computer..I'm using a M-Audio Delta 2496 Interface...I see no USB connection on the console...Can I use direct outs on the console to inputs on the the M-Audio 2496 interface...? Any help would certainly be appreciated...THANKS!
 
You could use the direct channel outs or the buss outputs to the inputs of your soundcard.
 
Thank you so kindly Track Rat, I certainly appreciate that...Can you tell me what kind of cables I will need to do that...I will be coming from my direct outputs ( a 25 pin connection )from my Tascam M-1600 console to my M-Audio Delta 2496 sound card which has 2 RCA input connections...? Please advise... THANKS!

Use the direct output connections but switch off the D. Out on the channels so you're using them as group outputs. Then you can assign any channel to the group for recording. Return the signal from the Delta to a pair of channels.
 
OK...I really appreciate all of the advice...But can anyone tell me what kind of cables it will take to make the connection from the consoles 25 pin connection to the Delta M-Audio soundcard which has only 2 RCA connections...? THANKS!

Probably get a commercially made harness. They are $50 to $100. Then build a pair of TRS-RCA adapters. You're going from balanced to unbalanced so you'll want to refer to Rane's Sound System Interconnection page to configure it correctly.
 
The 25 pin connection is called a D-sub, it has 8 balanced outputs in 1 cable. As a rule D-subs cables can be bought to go D-sub to D-sub, D-sub to 8 XLR's or D-sub to 8 TRS's. You could use a couple of Jack to rca adaptors with the TRS version. However D-sub cables are usually expensive as they have multicore cable and a lot of plugs for 1 cable. You could get hold of a D-sub connector and wire directly to a patch bay?

Thanks so much for all of your responses great information, but it is getting more complicated...I'm getting ready to forget about computer recording, and just look for a good multitrack recorder with a D-sub connection and be done with it...Any Amen's...?
 
Could I install a 25 pin SCSI controller card in my PC, and then use a 25 pin D-sub cable from my Tascam M-1600 console to my PC...Can anyone tell me if that would work....? Thanks Again

I doubt there are any multitrack recorders with analog D-sub connectors.

The cheap solution would be to get a DB25 connector and a stereo RCA cable, then cut one end off each channel of the cable and wire it into channels 1 and 2 of the DB25 per the Rane page.
 
If I may ask.......Why the hangup on using the sub-d out? Why it over the channel inserts? Given that the 2496 is just a 2 channel card, it's going to limit just how much you can do. I know how I use my 2496 with my small Soundcraft but, I'm not that familiar with the Tascam.

Using the group outputs lets you use the board's assign switches to route any input or submix of inputs to the interface. To use the inserts he'd have to repatch more often.
 
Thanks. I was thinking it was something like that but not being familiar with the Tascam, I wasn't sure.
