I am a voice over talent and am trying to set up a phone patch so clients can listen on my recording of their script. I was told it was easy, well maybe, but I am not having much luck. I went to Google Voice and got a phone number for me to call or receive calls from client. Now I am told I need to connect cables from my computer to my pre-amp. I have a Lexicon Alpha sound card and since it is connected to my computer I thought I could connect it to my pre-amp... ARE YOU CONFUSED YET?? Well I did that but it did not work. Then I was told I needed to have Google Chrome to make it happen. I need one of you tech savvy folks out there to please help.

I am a newbie and I am glad I am a part of the gang. Look forward to many conversations.

Thank you,

Jack

Hi.
Could you just use Skype?
Either that or just phone them from a landline/mobile whilst you're recording.
They don't necessarily need to hear your voice through the recording microphone, right?

Hi.
Could you just use Skype?

A lot talent are spreading love for Skype. Some are complaining of too many dropouts in GV and the Skype codecs have improved, especially in audio-only Skype calls.

Jack,
I have my Skype connected using my Mackie mixer. Corey Snow (Voxman) wrote a detailed blog post on how to set up a phone patch using Skype. I have read another blog about, but not tried, using a 2-Channel Apogee Duet for a mix-minus phone patch. Just as another option, a fellow Texan VO talent tested an interesting looking utility called Jack

Just for my curiosity, what is your audio chain? You said you are using the Alpha for your sound card, but now [you are] "told I need to connect cables from my computer to my pre-amp."

I have Skype and would love to use it. The client I have does not have it though. I was told it was a good idea to list phone patch, so potential clients would have another choice to listen in. If a phone patch is going to be this much trouble, I'd just as soon promote Skype and leave it at that.
Thank you for your reply
Jack:)
