I have a cheapie Yamaha keyboard with a stereo headphone jack. What's the easiest way to connect to the MR-8? Get a cable that terminates in a 1/4" plug? I assume I'd to get a stereo-to-mono adapter if I just wanted to record on a single track, or alternatively, I could get a y-cable and plug into Inputs A & B for stereo?

i just use a guitar cord, into my mixer, but all you need is the 1/4 adaptor, unless it is 1/4 like mine, then use the line in settings instead of the mic in settings...... or as you said you can hook up in stereo,

Dave, if you use a guitar cord, does it pass both stereo signals from the keyboard into the one mono track?

When I record from my QY70 I use a lead (cord) which has a stereo jack at one end, and splits to two mono jacks at the other end. I then record to two tracks, and get glorious stereo (good sound, but bad keyboard playing!).

mono

yes, unless i want to get a stereo sound, but i do my mixing on the computer so this isnt and issue for me.....

If you stick a mono cord into a stereo socket it doesn't combine the stereo into mono. All you get is the left channel through the tip of the jack plug, the right will either be shorted-out, or simply not make contact.

That's what I was thinking too, but I used a guitar cord last night from the keyboard to the MR-8 (one track) and it sounded to me like everything was there, just in mono. I threw together this little 35 second New Age sounding piece (Michael Oldfield-esque), with strings in the left channel, standard piano in the right, and a rock guitar playing the same melody in the middle. I was pretty blown away by the results but I need to go back and add a harmony lead to really make it shine. Anyway, I'm gonna pick up a y-cable like dave in Toledo was talking about. Thanks, guys.
