Hello Everyone,

I'm new here, so please excuse my questions if they are elementary to most of you. I love this forum and am grateful that it exists!

I need a little assistance in the best way to connect the following components together in my home studio:

1. Mic: Neumann BCM 104
2. PreSonus ADL 600
3. E-MU 1820M

I plan on mixing via a DAW (i.e., Cakewalk/Audition/etc.).

Using the above setup, I assume I won't need a separate hardware mixer like a Mackie, or would it still benefit in terms of being able to use the Compressor?

My intended delivery is Web through recorded training audio's and videos (but I want the sound to be as professional as possible).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Gregory

Most of us use cables.

The best advice you can get will be found in reading the manuals of the gear you have. You should find something about the theory of what the box is and does, and then you should find suggested setups.

Don't forget a decent mic stand. Cables are easy - your setup requires only two mic cables; one to the 600 and one from the 600 to the 1820m. The 600 is redundant, but its a hell of a nice preamp so use it.

My Fault...

Hi Treeline,

My fault. I should have clarified what I was asking. I've got the cables, so I what I wanted to know from the experts here was how to best connect the different pieces. For example, I can hook in via XLR, or through the non-balanced port I believe.

Also, will adding a mixer (aka Mackie) just add another piece of gear I don't need since I'll be using a DAW?

Thanks again!

Gregory

You don't need the mixer... and a general rule of thumb is balanced over unbalanced whenever possible...

BCM104>ADL600>E-MU 1820>DAW via S/PDIF, ADAT or Firewire. I'm an ADAT fan.
