Hi

I would like to use the Focusrite ISA 220 stereo AD converter card to connect digitally to pro tools and sync with my other Focusrite gear.

My setup is:
Pro tools 9
Two Focusrite Sapphire pro 40's
One Focusrite ISA 220 with Stereo A/D card

The two pro 40's are all synced and setup with pro tools , but i would now like to introduce the 220 in the setup. I want to connect a matched pair of microphones to the 220, apply some EQ and Compression, come out of the Digital out (either XLR or RCA S/PDIF) into the pro 40 S/PDIF input, ensuring sample rates all match Can anyone tell me if this is the way to go. I'm guessing that I might need to tweak something in pro tools. I hope someone can advise , I'm a songwriter trying to get some demos done not an engineer, so a bit stuck.

You're right on track... the 220 becomes the master unit, and it's S/PDIF out connects to the S/PDIF input on the Sapphire. Since the Sapphire 40 doesn't have a Word Clock connection on BNC plugs, the Word Clock source will need to be set to S/PDIF (I believe there is a software control panel for the Sapphire where you can do this), and make sure your Sample Rate in Pro Tools 9 matches whatever Sample Rate that you have selected on the ISA220.

hey thanks for that. I knew I was close. The main reason for doing this is so I can record in stereo with my Acoustic guitar. Are you familiar enough with the ISA to know if I would still be able to add EQ and Compression to my signal on the way in? I'm also thinking of using the 220 as a final mastering unit if possible, would that mean some alterations to the wiring?

thanks again
