Connecting Anolog Mixers to soundcards..

ok im just getting into recording... i was thinking about starting off with a good soundcard...but to save money.. would a Soundblaster 128 s-card do the job?...another thing... how would i connect a Anolog mixer such as a 8 -12 channel mixer or something like the Mackie1202-VLZ Pro 12 channel into a sound card? ...and one more thing... see for a while on my soundblaster i recorded through the mic in ( yikes! ) and it sounded horrible ..so a while ago i found out that you need to record through line in (i think thats the right name for it ?) so i pluged into there and it sounds 10 X better but it only records Mono! and i cant figure out how to make it record stereo? any help will be greatly appreciated!!!! :) - Kyle

try using another adapter on the line in...but then again i may be wrong. if you want to start with a sound blaster, try that sblive 5.1 people seem to pick that more for some reason and you can connect the mixer to the sound card with a 1/4 to 1/8 cable or a 1/4 to 1/4 cable and get a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter...be warned that the weight of the cable will pull on the line in plug after while and you might not get any sound at all aside from only getting mono

I dont understand what you are saying there lol....you mean physical pull on the line in and mess it up? ..couldnt i just prop a little something under the cable and support it? ........... oh and im thinking about getting something besides soundblaster.... im thinking the Delta soundcard ...ivv heard alot of good feedback about it ...but which one would be best for me? see i have $250 saved up for something ..i was ganna get a mixer but im going with a new soundcard..i can borrow my friends mixer if i wanted. Im looking in a magizine right now called Sweetwater and they have the Delta cards.. im thinking about the Delta 410...it says it has 4 in and 10 Out configuration that lets you combine your computer with an analog mixer ? that sounds great to me and its all 24 bit/96kHz ...so should i go with that?
 
It really depends on how many simultaneous tracks you want to record, and if you need midi.

That Delta 410 will record 2 simultaneous analog ins, and 2 s/pdif digital ins. The Audiophile will do the same, but you also get midi capability. The Delta 44 will record 4 analog ins at once for $199, but no midi.
 
hmm .. what is an S/PDIF I/O and what can you do with it?
 
spdif= digital input and output if you have a guitar processor board that has a digital out then you can plug it in there....yes you can prop the line in cable on something so it doesnt bend the connection
