I have a Marshall JCM2000 head that doesn't have an output labelled 'line out'. Is there a way to effectively connect my amplifier to my sound card? I use Cakewalk Guitar Tracks, but I don't like the sound I get when I plug my guitar directly into the card and edit the sound using Cakewalk. I'd much prefer the sound of my amp. Any suggestions on how to get the best sound out of my guitar when using Cakewalk?

I'm surprised you didn't smoke the sound card or more...Even some of the smaller, say 30 watt practice amps, that have a headphone jack are still too hot to use...definately mic it.

Try the "effects out". Same as a line level output. Not sure if it will sound as good as micing it though. Nothing like a good ol' SM-57 close up to the cone for rock guitar. :D

Good luck.
