this is probably a dumb question, but i'm trying to connect a rode nt1 mic to the mixer and the mixer to the delta card. I am recording with cool edit and cant get any signal. I have the mic in the mic input line, and the main out to the delta input 1...is there something i'm doing wrong,I'd appreciate any help.

I have the mic in the mic input line

Make sure you have the gain up on your mixer. Its a little black dial below your input. Also check you have a signal on your mixer. If you don't then it's a problem with your mixer or your microphone.

and the main out to the delta input 1

check you have the main volume up on your mixer and check you have the volume up on your soundcard control panel for for input 1.

well, the output of the mixer is in stereo, so you will need to use both outputs... going into delta 44's PCM 1/2 in

make sure the mixer for teh delta has the levels up, as well as the output levels on the mixer... make sure you have routed the signal properly (is you're using alt3-4 then make sure thats where your outputs are coming from)

Do you have the phantom power for the mic engaged? If not, that'll keep you from getting any signal for sure... the RODE NT-1 is a condenser mic.

he could also pan the mic channel L or R and then use the corresponding out from the mixer to one channel in on the delta....no need to waste hard-drive space for a stereo recording when it's really only mono....

to summarize:
- make sure gain on the mic input is up (the Behringer manuals have good 'how to' on getting levels)
- make sure phantom power is on
- both channel level and main level on the mixer should be up
- delta input level should be up (and un-muted)

Something else - on the Behringer 802 the main outs are "pro level" +4 balanced lines. The Tape outs however are "consumer grade" -10 unbalanced, which works better with something like a SB Live or Audigy (which is what my 802 is hooked to). I don't know what signal level the Delta expects, but I would expect the main outs would be it.

And make sure that if you are using the Mains, that you don't push down the "2-Track to Mix" button, it will mute anything except the Tape In.

The Delta takes either level, switchable in software... good catch, one more thing to check.

hmmmmm....are you sure? in the manual..it says:
"It can also be routed to the main mix via switch "2TK TO MIX"

And i know that if that is NOT pressed, the signal will not come out right of those 2 1/4" plugs.

you're right shackrock....the '2 trk to mix' button simply routes the 2 track inputs (the rca 'tape in''s ) to the main mix...basically adds 2 more channels to the board (w/out EQ, etc.) or allows you to chain more than 2 mixer together, etc...it doesn't mute all other channels!!

According to my manual the outputs are pro level but not balanced. Have a look at the circuit diag ?

Well I may be wrong on that, although it occurs to me that I use the Control Room out to monitor, not the mains, which I don't use for anything. I'm pretty sure that when the 2Trk button is pushed I loose all signal to the control room except the 2 track. However I will have to go back and check...

According to the Behringer web site, the main outs are balanced (as are all the inputs). The Control room send and aux send are unbalanced.

Thats what it says in the manual as well but the circuit diagram shows it to be single ended on just a 2 pole socket? Will get out the Meter tonight and check.
