connecting 8 preamps to a motu (please help)

Hey, I've got a Motu 1224 and I need to connect 8 preamps to it for laying down some drum tracks. I was thinking of purchasing this alesis rack unit: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/630159/

How would I connect those 8 preamps to each of my 8 analog inputs on my motu? I was told the inserts will send and I could just use quarter inches on all the respective inserts, and then I was told this is wrong. If I can't connect these preamps to my motu, what is one of the most affordable (200-350 dollar) mixer which can do the job?

Yeah ... thats exactly how you would do it .... Use the inserts.
You could also look at a Yamaha MG 16/4

connect your pre amps(x8) to your 1224. simple as that. If your pre amp outs are XLR, just get XLR to 1/4" cables. Unless your trying to do something before the 1224, should work fine.

Yeah I understand that part. It's just what do I use as my outs? Generally, low end mixers don't have specific "output" jacks for each channel, there are just outputs for the mains. I've heard using the TRS jacks as outputs works and Crankz has confirmed that. Anyone else agree? Thanks again for your help, Crankz and Tonio.

Yes, Crankz is right. Go ahead and use your insert jacks as outputs.
