confused as hell (also posted in the MIDI forum)

I have an Alesis DM5 and an Akai S-20 sampler I want to trigger from pads connected to the DM5..I know(??) this is possible and I know(??) it requires using MIDI but I'm lost...I just found a link under the "I hate MIDI" thread that I'm going to check out...I have a MIDI cable going from the MIDI OUT of the DM5 to the MIDI IN of the S-20. I thought I set all the parameters right but I Guess not...Is there anything obvious I'm not doing?

I'm not sure, but like a TV set, your dm should share the same midi channel as your S-20. Refer to your DM manual to determine what channel can be used to control your sampler. Or are you using the S-20 as the controller?

I'm using the DM5 as the controller..it seems like you can use any channel you want because you press the MIDI button then select the channel...I can do the same thing on the S20 so I don't see why they aren't "talking"
