Winner chicken dinner!
I need.....well, I "want" another LDC to supplement my soundelux u195 but I don't want something that sounds similar. I've thought about getting an AT4047 but for some reason I'm thinking it has a similar quality to the u195. I also am looking at the AT 4033. Does anyone with experience with all these mics have any comments on these or other mics or suggestions on other mics that would complement the u195?

I used to use the AT 4033 a lot but lately I find it a little undefined, that can be a good thing but I haven't had a use for it. Why not throw a T-3 (Studio Projects) or a Rode NTK in the mix, both nice tubes with a real different sound than the 195. I am guessing you already have some small diaphragm mics cuz if not, then that's your move.

I have both the U195 and 4033 and I have a lot of experience with both. I don't have any experience with a 4047.

Do you have an Omni mic? Maybe a 4050.

What's the main use for this additional mic? General use? Vocals? Instruments?

you might want to check out a MXL V69ME tube mic--would be a nice colored compliment to your U195.

The 4050 would be a nice difference as would the 4033. Cardioid only on the 4033. An ADK Vienna or a Hamberg would also be a good fit and well within the budget. For a slight bit more you do a matched pair of either one and treat yourself to one of the best sounding drum overheads at this price range.
