Hello all. I just bought my first condenser (studio projects B1) and i'm trying to use my power amp (yamaha emx 5000 -12) for it's phantom power so i can record onto my tascam 688. It works through the power amp but I don't know how to get that signal out of the power amp and into the 8 track. I've tried connecting to various outs but i'm still not getting a signal in the tascam. I'm not super technologically savvy so i'm probably making an obvious mistake. Anybody know how to do this? THanks

The mixer will have 'rec out' or line outs. Use these.

can't find a line out but it does have a rec out which needs the 1/8th inch (red a whites) and i do have an adapter from 1/8th to 1/4 to go into the tascam but i'm still not getting a signal. I wonder if the adapter is broken or if there is some sort of lvl control for the rec out. I can't seem the find it and the manual doesn't mention one.

Maybe plug some headphones into the 1/8th jack and check for signal.

Alternatively there may be an effects send you could use.

My guess is that there is no level control for the record out, it is proibably just whatever line level the mixer is running at.

If it's comming out at the powered end that sort of says the mic and mixer are doing their thing. Try one the 1/4" stereo outs (make sure the mic channel is pan to that side or center), and last do you get level on the tascam line in with some other known good signal in?
There is also the possiblbility to use the mixer channel's 1/4" insert' as an output- but first things first.

Thanks mixsit

I tried going out of the main 1/4in outs like you said and also realized that i needed to use the dual function to get the line input to work. I should have thought of using the main outs but that would have been too simple. Thanks for your help all.

well i spoke too soon. Now the signal seems over amplified. How Would I use the effect sends instead?

Forget FX sends for the moment. They will not solve that problem. Rec Out and FX deliver line-level outputs. Instead, look at the Tascam and see if you have linelevel inputs, or you can change the gain on the input channels somewhere.
