I've heard, among other things that in less than ideal recording environments, close miking of drums will give you a better sound. ppl at http://duc.digidesign.com said that using Audio-Technica ST-90's was not the way to go.

I now have an AKG Emotion 5pc drum mic pak, and a Shure SM57. should I get some condenser mics for the cymbals, or what?

(Phantom power is not a problem, Mackie cfx12 and digi001 both provide 48v. Both also serve as preamps.)

What mics came with that package?.....Ive seen some AKG packages come with 2 C1000's that would be good for cymbal/overheads.......a pair of Marshall mxl603's will be what you need if not......

I think a kick mic, 2x 440's for Toms and 2x 660's for snare

seems like we got a much better sound the other day at practice, (I also multitracked the drums) and the sound is much cleaner.
