computer to 4track

I've been working with ReBirth... recording direct to my 1985 Tascam 246. I've got numerous effects pedals and a decent synth, not to mention guitars, banjos, and bass to accompany. This might be a long shot, but has anyone recorded to a 4track using this program or something like it? I'd be interested to know processes used. I did something tonight, but it ended up sounding like bad Nine Inch Nails, which is what I'm not interested in. I'd be happier if it sounded more like Atari Teenage Riot, noise/ electronic/ rock type stuff.
Thank you to anyone who can help me out... I'm in dire straits here.
P.S. I have access to other music programs (not cakewalk), but need to hear the names of easy to work with software.

why do you want to record to a 4 track from a computer?
 
Why wouldn't you keep your music in the digital domain?
 
i'm recording computer to a 4track beacuse that's what I have. i don't have a fancy soundcard. i do have access to cooledit pro, but it's just easier for me to run the computer's headphone jack to my 4track.
i'm an analog fella at heart, i just like to play around with electronic music from time to time.
 
If you are happy where you are, that's cool....but I bet you will get a better sound out of that soundcard you have than you can get from that 4 track.....And if you get homesick for the 4 track sound, just throw in a extra track of you going "hssssssssssss".....

Really, it wouldnt hurt to try...get a cable that goes from your 4 tracks outputs to the soundcard (1/8" stereo?)....press record on the 4 track and record on the software (cool edit,Ntrack, whatever) and then play back both.....
 
Here I go - agreeing with Gidge again.

I bought an Ensoniq PCI 16 bit card (<$30) which has excellent S/N ratio for its price. Try ntrack.

My Tascam 414 doesn't come close in any area. Digital sounds better, is more flexible, offers more options, is cheaper. Also, I bet you can't surf these sites, write letters, play solitaire, etc using your analog recorder.

Finally, try editing an analog track in the same manner as editing a digital wave file using Goldwave.

If you're not convinced, you can buy my 414.
