When I start recording the first midi track using channel 1 both on Music creator and on my Casio keyboard everything is great. But as soon as I set the 2nd midi track to channel 2 on m/c and my keyboard my computer shuts down. Would anyone know why?
Do I need to buy more memory? My dell has a 256 module. Thanks

Sounds like the CPU is over heating.

I'd try updating the drivers for whatever MIDI interface you have first.

Either the cpu is overheating, as mentioned before, or, the Power Supply could be faulty...possbily even bad ram.

Does it just shut down, or reboot, or do you get the blue screen of death?

If it's a matter of CPU loading, I would think that you could more easily load it down by adding a couple audio tracks and hang on a couple plug-ins. I bring this up to see if it's a midi specific thing that causes the crash or if it really has nothing at all to do with the midi track add.

"Dude, it's a dell!"

Edit- Some pussy red dotted me for this comment and didn't have the nuts to leave their name.

256MB of RAM?? If it reboots, I'd say it sounds like a faulty memory stick. You need more memory, especially if you're running XP. 512MB seems to be the minimum many people would go for, I have 2 gigs in my machine. If it just shuts down it might be the PSU like some else said.

I had a Toshiba that'd do that to me at random times.. Nothing special about what I'd be doing.. Email, spreadsheets, word processor, surfing porn, etc.. Just outta the blue.. BAM.. It'd go down.. After about 2 months of this and every windows update I could find, someone asked if I'd checked for any BIOS updates.. Low and behold there was one and it took care of the problem.. Was an issue with the thermal shutdown threshold point being set to low.. Has never went down on me since.. Was prolly one of the most stable units I ever saw after that.. You could lug the thing down and it'd just keep on chuggin...

Anyroads... Check for a BIOS or CMOS update from Dell...
