I am contemplating buying a Presonus Firebox, with the Cubase LE included. I've read the hardware/software requirements, now I want opinions from experienced people in here.
My father and I plan on building a computer with what he has mostly in stock. It might look something like this:
Pentium 3 or a Celeron if he doesn't have a board for a P3.
(doubt we can swing a P4 as it will require purchase of chip and board)
Windows XP
512 meg PC133 ram
60G HD
DVD drive
not sure about the video or sound card. Doubt it will be spectacular.
no modem, no extra drives, no MS office or any standard PC stuff that will bog down resources. Strictly for recording, then transferring files via flash usb drive to my other computer for cd burning/uploading.

Any suggestions?

Dont expect much from a P3. It would not be worth buying a firebox for. I used a dual P3 933 with 2 gig of ram and it was barely usuable

yeah,
latency was off the chart, track count was limited to about 10 tracks + 2-3 vstis before it would start choking. Why spend $400 on a sound card for a $100 computer?

It did serve me for several years but 30% of the time was spent dealing with performance issues (boucing/rendering tracks)
