I'M BLESSED.......
I am getting rid of my PC and would like to purchase another soley for the pruposes of recording. Any suggestions as far as specs.? Minimum Requirements?
I am running Reason 2.5, Sonar 4, Fruity 5, and would to possibly use other plug-ins.........

I'm asking because I am not a normal computer recorder, (I'm a bit Old School) but I do like to mess around with the software I mentioned and I want to ensure I have the proper cpu to continue running it without overkill.....
So ummmmm.......I lil help will help!

whats the deal with the Celeron? What is it? I posted a similar thread in the Computer forum, but I wasn't sure if it mattered that I am dealing with Hiphop and RnB, SO I want some advice from those who are doing what I'm doing...........

Celeron is a striped down intel processor. Also the AMD sempron is striped down.

I've overcome latency problems while recording 4 or more tracks at the same time by adding memory and installing fast hard drives. But for recording up to 8 at a time I have to go thru a little ritual to get the computer to work fast enough: defrag the HD, reboot, kill the virus protection, pray, burn kosher incense in a pentagram drawn with blood while facing East... then it works fine. Othwerwise, recording will stop mid-performance because audio can' be written fast enough to the HD. I've ruled out the bloody pentagram thing so it must be the Celeron.

The genre doesn't matter for the computer. Can you assemble one yourself? If so go to a place like www.newegg.com and get the parts. If you build it with whatever was bleeding edge a year ago, you should have plenty of power.

Or, you can go to local PC shop and have them build up a barebones system. The biggest thing to watch out for is to make sure that your soundcard is compatible with the motherboard chipset.

Trump, what's the spec of your current pc

maybe you only need to replace a few part e.g upgrade ram or what not

Trump.....

What's your budget?

I would suggest a ...

Intel Pentium 4

At least one (1) GIG of RAM

two (2) hard drives both at least @7,200 RPM's

a dual output video card

You could put it together yourself for about $800 or $900 USD.

I didn't want to spend no more than $1,500.........I'll have to check the specs on my current one, which is a gateway. I know It is a pent 3, 512 ram, everything else I would have to check. It hasn't given me any problems, but I just want a pc dedicated solely to recording. the Gateway has been used to surf the web, do term papers, play games, etc.........It runs well, I just want another one for Recording purposes only and I just want to make sure what things I should get as a MUST!

The thing about PCs is that they lose value very quickly, both in terms of money and usefullness. Mics, pres, monitors, guitars, and all that other cool stuff tends to hold or increase in value. (Except Behringer! :D)

So get a good middlin' PC. $1500 should be way plenty.

Make sure the motherboard chipset is compatible with your soundcard.

Whats the purpose of the two (2) hardrives? DO you mean I can physically put it together myself, or I can have it done for apprx $800-$900?

One drive is for the OS and other software, the other is reserved for audio files. You don't need two huge ones, though. One can be 30 or 40G, and the other 80 or more.

Yeah, most cities will have little independent shops that sell components and put together systems. You can spec cases, processors, motherboards, and hard drives. They'll install only an OS without any fluff. It's not that hard to do yourself if your handy.

you should consider putting it together check out this site among others for parts
www.pricewatch.com

the parts only fit one way so you really gotta wanna do some damage to do some damage

Good info y'all................
I'm in the hunt now, thanks for the help! ! !
