If it was a graphics card or memory the motherboard would still give a bios post beep. the ONLY things that will cause it to NOT beep at all is if the motherboard is shorted to the case (mine does this on a regular basis and I just flex the board to move it a little and all is well again)

Other than that I would look at the power to the motherboard itself (are the board fans all spinning?)

if not the power supply/connection to the MB could be the cause.

After that you're looking at the CPU but I seriously doubt it's that.

BINGO....I gave a pull on the side of the board, and it came back to life.

You da man crainie....Thanks so much

glad you got it fixed
it's funny to read what everyone has done when this has happened to them. One person it was the RAM, another the video card, another the connectors, another the CMOS battery

Well, it drove me nuts when I had this problem, and there was definitely no BIOS error code beep. It stunned both myself and my buddy, and we're both computer pros who have been building systems for many years (I'm a developer, and he's a sys admin).

Funny thing is, the sticks were all the same size, but sifferent manufacturers, and I could reproduce the problem by putting them back in the original order.

I have to admit, I have not yet run across a board shorting out where the power supply was not also shorted.

When he said the board fan was spinning, I would have thought that the mb was powered, not shorted.

God only knows what really goes on in there. I did move the RAM around and replaced one of the matched sticks with a mismatched one, which seems to work now where it didn't before. I'm amazed the damn things work at all.

Thanks for your help, folks.
