I am new to recording on computers and I would like to know some good software for recording. Im looking for the Adobe Photoshop of recording, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for your help!

I believe the Photoshop of recording would be Pro-Tools. Having never used it, I will leave the debate as to it's merits or faults to others. I do believe it's still the professional standard among commercial studios though, which is what I perceived the analogy to be.

Excellent moniker, BTW. Victor is THE man, as far as I'm concerned. And more than just as a bass player.

It's 3:30am. Ignore me.

The best recording software is the software you yourself can use

you can't go wrong with Sonar 3, Samplitude, Cubase SX, Nuendo, Logic, etc. etc.

These days, whether it be Mac or PC, Intel or AMD, Sonar or Protools... it all comes down to personal preference as they all are well made and superior tools to get the job done.

Thanks for your help guys! It points me in a direction... hope its the right one. ;)

cheers,
Wooten

I myself use Adobe Audition, 128 tracks, easy to use effects menu and you can edit the tracks individually in wave edit view, just my preference

ive been using it for 2 years now

an alternative

before laying out a couple of hundred dollars, and at the risk of repeating myself, before you make a major purchase try all the demoes then try the powertracks demo from pgmusic.com
(i just got a flyer from them , 29 dollars for christmas to purchase),
or magix audio studio magix.de 49 dollars i paid for mine.. both packages include great audio multitrack and midi sequencers. both packages i use. they have received awards from computer music mags.
powertracks lets you do 48 digital audio tracks.
if you doubt me try the demos and compare.
cool edit, cubase and many others are very good packages too.
but you might consider what i use for a total outlay of 80 dollars.
i have to say ive found the pgmusic.com user forum very friendly,
and ive found a lot of good unbiased opinion on there from folks
who use powertracks plus many other multitrack software products. some other popular inexpensive multitrack software is n track, traktion with a growing fan base, and multitrack studio at multitrackstudio.com also an exceptionally capable software in my opinion.
