I'm getting a really great soundcard.
does that mean I can get some freeware, mixer and a mic's
and start practicing and recording.
What freeware is good?
HelP!!!

Well, if you have a "really great soundcard" (i.e. - full duplex, nice converters, at least 24-bit), you should be on your way. There are plenty of demo versions of software out there for free. There is a program called Kristal Audio Engine that is free. When you've reached the limits of that, for about $100, you can step up to even better multitrack options such as Cubase SE, Cakewalk Home Studio, Powertracks, N-Track, etc.

Welcome to the board and happy recording.
