Hello,

I'm using a M-Audio MobilePre USB Preamp and connecting it to an AT-2020 condenser. I've connected my microphone to my preamp and connected the preamp to my computer via USB. I've pressed the "phantom power" button and it's on.

When I go to recognized devices on my computer it labels MobilePre as a functioning and recognized device, but my computer is still taking in recording from my computer's built in mic.

I'm recording using Audacity, I went into preferences to attempt to pick the AT-2020 as the new audio input however it's still only giving me my built-in computer mic as a possible selection! Seems like my computer recognizes the preamp but not the mic attached to it!

Any tips?

What OS? If Windows, select the Mobile Pre as default speaker and recording device. Control Panel>Sound.

Windows 8. It allows me to select MobilePre as default for playback but for recording it only gives my computer mic as a possible selection.

I knew the W8 issues would arise.......

Can you disable the built in mic altogether?

Yes. It says "No audio devices are installed" in the recording tab under sounds in the control panel now. If I attempt to record something it gives me an error saying it can't open an audio device. I've tried hitting "add device" hoping it would recognize the microphone but no dice.

Sounds like you need a W8 driver for the Mobile Pre. Did you check to see if M-Audio has a new driver for W8?

Doesn't seem available yet. Does this mean I'm screwed until the driver is released?

Thanks for your help I got it to work! I just needed to restart my computer :laughings:

That being said it's only currently recording on my right channel...any ideas on this...

LOL! Glad you got it working.

Yeah, that sounds like an easy issue to fix. Each input of your Mobile Pre is a mono source. If you have one mic going in, then it needs to be recorded to a mono track. If you try to record to a stereo track, it will only get one input source (expecting two), so you will only have one side working.

Start with a mono recording track. :)
