I plan to get a laptop for recording in the near future, but im a little reluctant to buy a laptop w/ included internet. I figure it might be safer to just use the new laptop for recording only, not having to worry about viruses and what-not. i do have another laptop (the one i'm using right now), and i could use that for internet...

what would you suggest? should i get internet w/ the new laptop?

Years and years and years ago you had to strip everything out of computers to make a reasonable DAW.

Not anymore.... that's 1998 thinking.

All of my DAWs have been standard machines with zero problems. You don't need to make 'audio only' recording PCs anymore.

I have the netwrok card disabled on my audio PC. This is so that I don't have to have things like antivirus and antispyware, thereby minimizing processes and RAM uasge etc.

I've never seen a laptop with included internet ;)

It may have a modem, NIC, wireless network card, 3g data card and whatnot, but unless you connect it to a network then what does it matter? As said above you can always disable the builtin devices in the BIOS.

+1

U betcha, in the world of quad cores, why bother?

Sure. HP's got one with a 1000 TB hard drive; for $100 extra, they'll download the Internet for you. :D

While you can do decent recording with a general purpose computer, it still doesn't seem like a great idea if you can avoid it. Just because you can run protools and bittorrent at the same time, should you? The less you have going on, the less can go wrong.
