well i downloaded family feud the online game :D :D good stuff

but anyways i installed it and everything

when i double click the icon to run it it looks like it almost immeditaley reatarts my computer

but right before it restarts it goes to a black screen... so it looks as if its just about to start and then it just shuts down

any ideas???

this is not the only game that does this

my personal guess has something to do with the video card .. but who knows im probably way off??

Yes, it's probably a video card issue.

Look at the settings for your video driver. Is there an option to turn off hardware acceleration? Try changing it to a lower setting, or turning acceleration off completely. This is just a band-aid, but it would at least narrow down the problem. I've attached a picture of the settings dialog from a Win2K system with a Radeon 7500 video card.

After you change the setting, iIf the program (or other programs with similar problems) don't crash your computer, you can be pretty sure that the problem is in your video driver. If that's the case, the next step would be to check the manufacturer's web site to see if an updated driver is available.

thank you ..ill try it!

well games used to work on my computer but then many things went wrong so i reformatted it and now it doesnt work sooo i might have to get those drivers

although this doesnt seem to be the right forum .. or board to post this on...

yes, id say video or maybe even audio conflict... see if you can run in safe mode (the game), also make sure to update all your drivers, video, audio, windows, etc...

......... i cannot find that screen

but i also think ive found another problem..

i have 4 devices that arent working properley and one is the multimedia video controller and the other is the mulitmedia audio controller

im pretty sure thats my problem...

the other two that arent working are the etherenet controller and a USB port so those have nothing to do with it but i think the other two are the problem!

What version of Windows are you using? (I assume you're using Windows.) Do you have the latest (or at least a recent) service pack installed?

Yes, you're going to have to resolve the device conflicts before you can get very far with this. Can you tell from the device manager what the conflict is? It might say something like, "This device wants IRQ 3 (or some other resource -- that's just an example), but IRQ 3 is already in use by another device."

yeah i have XP and a recent SP i might even have the newest one

but anyways the only problem is that the drivers are not installed

ut the problem is i dont have a CD that has the drivers on it and i dont know what brand of these things i have

If you look in the Device Manager, under one of the non-functioning devices, does it give you any information? Right-click the device, and look on the General properties tab. It should tell you at least the manufacturer. Then you might be able to get a driver from their web site.

That isn't right. Just isn't right....

If only you had Linux. Would you happen to have a Knoppix live CD lying around? The "lsusb" command would tell you what you need to know. If even that tells you that the manufacturer is unknown, I'd say you have a seriously misbehaving USB device.

well i bought this computer off of ebay about 2 years ago

everything was fine then but reformatted it and there has been several things that dont work anymore

i have a pci card with A/V inputs and coax and s-video but i dont have a program to make it work anymore and i dont even know if it works anymore

and then i had to buy a new ethernet card cause i couldnt figure out why the one it came with wasnt working .. i dont know which USB port isnt working they all seem to work .. but yeah theres been problems

and ive never been able to figure out how to get this thing back in shape

it came with no CDs

You might have to pop the cover off the machine and look at the video card. It should have the manufacturer's name somewhere. It would be on the printed circuit board itself; the chips are usually sourced from other manufacturers, who have little or nothing to do with supplying drivers to customers.

Figure out who the manufacturer is, and find their web site. Or just buy a new video card, if you can spare the cash.

If audio and/or video are onboard rather than on PCI cards, you should go to the web site of the motherboard manufacturer.

yeah i think ive done that before and i remember i couldnt find anything .. but ill look again sometime in the future

by the way thank you very much for helping me out like this

what if those cards are considered standard system devices??? how do i know where to get drivers??

If they truly are standard devices, XP will install generic drivers for them. You can use the device manager to remove the non-functioning devices. Then, the next time XP boots, it will reinstall the drivers. Of course, you have to have the XP installation media available in order for this to work. If the computer came with XP preloaded, it should have a copy of all the drivers somewhere on the hard drive.
