Computer Processing Sound Thru My Monitors

Hi All,

I'm having an issue where I'm getting the sounds of my computer processing data thru the monitors (HS50Ms). It doesn't matter if I have my DAW open or not. Even when booting up I get this low noise. Any ideas how I can stop this?

I get the same thing, but I try to ignore it. I don't hear it on the finished product anyway.
 
I saw a thread awhile ago that mentioned certain cables or some device can stop this...unfortunately I can no longer find the thread.
 
A low noise?? like hum?? does your interface have balanced outputs? Are your monitors plugged into your interface and not your internal sound card? Are you using TRS-TRS or TRS to XLR balanced cables to the monitors?
 
Is it the hard drive motor? It could be a ground loop. If your computer is a laptop, see if it does it when it's running on batteries.

Yes, ignore it. If you are talking about the 'phaser-ish' sounding noise while your computer is booting with your interface or monitors powered up, then just wait to turn it/them on. If this is going on while recording, then it sounds like something to take issue with. With my setup, I only need my interface on before opening my DAW. WMP and all other built in PC audio does not care if I power up after booting windows. Cubase, in my case, has to initialize with the interface powered up when starting, in order for it to work. But only then.
 
It is happening while recording but does not show up during playback thru my headphones so clearly it's not my signal. I'm using TS cables from my monitors to my interface...should I be using TRS?

Yes TRS is always better if you have that option. As Uhdinator asked, does your interface have TRS outputs? I had a similar issue with my interface that had an internal power supply. TRS cables fixed it. I would definitely try that first.

Ok, I was working in the studio a bit tonight and realized that the problem happens thru my headphones as well. However, it happens even when playback is stopped and my line in is turned all the way down. Do u think TRS cables to my monitors will help this as well or is this more in depth than that?
