Hello!
I'm super new to the home recording thing, well i take that back.. I'm super new to caring what my recordings sound like, i've always used a computer mic and audacity to get my point across. Anyhow, i'm new to this and i've got a perfect little room for a home studio, i've got some components, such as a midi and an interface, i've got a condenser microphone and a couple other dynamics.. and i have a cheap laptop which i believe causes every issue i've come across so far. So i am in the market to buy a new computer. i found one within my price range, but i'm unsure if it will keep up with recordings or if it will cause me as many problems as my acer has. i'm looking at an HP with 6GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive and an AMD Phenom 840t Quad-Core Processor. let me know what you think, please.. it would help me out a bunch. : )

I have a 4gb with 300gb hardrive and its fine so im going to assume that this HP will be able to handle it :)

Yep. It should be plenty of space and power. You can always add another TB if you need.

Mikal - That computer will be plenty! I've been using less horse power than that and doing professional music and voiceover recording for several years. The other equipment you have should be plenty to give you the quality you need. I'd also recommend adding Reaper software to the mix (no pun intended;)), which is the most incredible DAW for the money EVER!

Hope that helps.

People here are able to multitrack with way older computers - audio recording is not very CPU intensive. VST's can start to eat up CPU - but those specs are way better than what most people are using. Any interface you buy will show minimum requirements.
