computer battery backup as power conditioner

I've got terrible knob & tube ungrounded power at my house, and I had been experiencing a hum through my preamps and interface (it was different with different preamps, so I thought it might be them) - I began to suspect the power, then started researching power conditioners / voltage regulators. I got frustrated with that and just went and bought the cheapest ($44) battery backup at Fry's. I plugged everything through the battery backed outlet (my total draw is probably less than 5 amps) and everything's quiet now!

Anyway, just thought I'd mention that.

It's low-cost, built solid, and has nine outlets! My only gripe is that I wish it had more outlets on the front, but whatever. It's still awesome!
