What is it and its function and should I get one?
I record on
a BOSS BR-532 digital recorder.
I only use the PC for burning and making beats. (Cool Edit)
Would I need one with this combo that I use?

The BR-532 has a compressor built in to the effects. It's an insert effect though - not a loop effect. But, I think there is a way to use it as a loop effect if you want. Check out the Yahoo BR-532 forum - it has a ton of good info:
