I just got a compressor for Christmas and have been toying with it in my studio, however, I really have no clue what it does or how to use it. I dont understand what it means by the input and output and how it does what it does. Can anyone tell me what all the terms mean and what the ratios mean, and exactly how to use a compressor? please send and answer to EGiordano@mediaone.net

Why the hell did you get it ?

The input goes into the wall, and the output into your tires. Now with the treshold you can select the airpressure.

THANKS GIDGE

GIDGE IS THE MAN OF ALL MEN!!! I looked at web sites the whole week that wouldnt tell me everything and now I feel like I'm an expert on commpressors thanks to the ones Gidge gave me. Thanks a lot

"I really have no clue what it does"

Man, I wouldn't even buy a jelly bean if I didn't know what it did.

Do your research first and then buy what you absolutely NEED. Lucky for you we all need compressors!

Scott

Hey scott, how about you spend your time in better ways than cutting people down for no reason. Your post did no good for anyone and it was just a waste of time for you to write it. Why have so many bad feelings. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE, BEATLES FOREVER!!!!!

all of you know you had condoms in your wallet WAAAAAAAY before you knew what to do with them....Gman wants to learn - we gonna school him......

what other gear are u rockin', dude?

Hey, TheGmiester, I wasn't trying to cut you down. Just making a point. Im sorry if Iv'e offended you.

I don't have bad feelings for you, just sympathy. And I wish you all the best.

BEATLES FOREVER!!!!!
Yeh man. My favourite band by far. All YOU need is compression.

Still, I was just making a point that I wouldn't buy any piece of equipment that I ;
1. Didn't know what it did
2. Didn't know how to use it

Now that you know a bit more about compressors you "might" of made a better choice in your compressor. I don't think that I'm wasting my time giving you this advice for free. If you want to survive forums like this learn to take this kind of subtle criticism. I get more than my fare share of criticism and am gratefull for it.

Your responce to me was more "cutting down for no reason" than mine. And I'm glad you said it to me. Now I know how to treat you. With love and compassion and warmth and kindness and fluffy mumbeans. "ABBEY ROAD" rules.

Hey Gidge, do you think I'm still being to hard on him!

condoms cost 20 cents. Compressors cost weeks and months of hard earned wages. Please be sensable about this.

A lot of critacism thats been fired at me was done for good reason and iv'e learnt a lot from it.

Scott, i see where you are coming from...it is a bad bad idea to buy gear you are not acquainted with......the bad news is the damage is already done - the compressor is bought...it wont do any good to slam him(and im not saying you did)...lets just help him use it....

the good news is that a compressor is a ver valuable piece of gear in a studio....

im almost scared to ask, but i will anyway...what compressor is it that you have, G?....

Scott, that last post was beautiful....im getting all misty.......lets all hug....

Heh heh..That is a good one..

But....didn't he get this comp for christams? Meaning.....HE didn't buy it?

Maybe he didn't buy it but he probably placed the order. I cannot imagine anyone I know buying me a compressor for Christmas on thier won initiative. So, he must have asked for it and, he probably asked for a specific compressor. Therefore, the only conclusion is that he was aware of the need for compression in a studio but did not know exactly what use to put it to nor did he know exactly how to use it. So, we can conclude that he knew the importance of compression from either reading these forums or from the many, many mentions of compression in articles and books and knew he needed one. Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with that IMHO.

And..BTW, didn't you all get a bicycle for Christmas before you knew how to ride? I got an entire computer recording setup without knowing exactly how everything worked becuase I had not recorded much music since the 1980's. I had to find out alot about DAW's digital mixers and the like and made choices based upon the information and knowledge I had at that point. Certainly I know more now but if I keep waiting until I know everything, I will neveer accomplish anything. So....PEACE! And remember, all you Beatle fans, "Beat the Meatles" every day. It will help your recording carrer.
