Hi there;

I have an ART ECC processor, which I have been pretty happy with (got it on an even trade for my Digitech RP-1...) One thing, though.... In the compression settings, there are three parameters.... the last two of them are pretty typical: ratio, and output. While one would expect that the other setting would be attack or release (yes, it IS the first parameter that can be adjusted), it is labeled as "drive." What exactly is this??!! :confused:

Thanks!
Chris

Threshold.... of course.... I was thinking that as I was posting my question, but it never quite made it to the typwriter keyboard. Really!!

Thanks for the response!

Okay.... so it seems that increasing the drive *lowers* the threshold, as when I have the drive set too high, feedback is nearly impossible to control. I set the gate up pretty heavy and I get a pattern like "play chord - stop strings with side of hand - hear a half second of feedback - gate kicks in and stops feedback." If I *decrease* the drive setting (ie. increase the threshold?) then this problem pretty much disappears.

Any thoughts??

hmmm... back off on the drive? ;)

I'm not too familiar with the ECC. My SGE sucks major. Drive is adjustable only in percentages... 100%, 87%, 65%, etc... those are some pretty big gaps... anywho, you could probably mess with input and output levels... Maybe back off on the input level so that the signal isn't "driven" as much and maybe back off on the output level so that the gate kicks in earlier... or adjust output level so that the gat doesn't kick in until later.

Hey, thanks JR97!! As it turns out, though, the problem wasn't my processor. I guess at some point my pickups had become decidedly "microphonic" and needed to be potted. I'll be trying them out today at rehearsal, but trying them out at the shop where they were done seemed to suggest a huge improvement.
