I would like to plug my cassette recorder player into my computer and
copy several songs that i could burn to a cd.
I have received sound with a rca y to a single 1/8 male plug.
Am using windows2000 sound recorder, sound is distorted.
any recomendations on software needed (free downloadable?)
soundcard specifications, quality I can expect ,cheap as possible.
all replies appreciated
thanks, john

There's a free audio program called Audacity that's pretty good. Search this site for a link to download. You should also be able to use Windows Media Player to burn CDs. You'll have to experiment with the level settings on the tape player and soundcard mixer to find what works. Be sure to use the soundcard's line-in. That 1/8" male plug should be a stereo plug. The record level (input) should be on the soundcard's mixer program.
