I'm doing a compilation album with both new recordings and archive material from the 1920s and onward. The old recordings are from wax cylinders, tape and cassette from a local musuem/archive, and they can transfer to CD for me. In addition I'm going to record some new stuff.

I'm guessing this might be a problem when it comes to mixing and mastering. Should I record in 16/44.1 and trust that the transfer from the archives are good enough? Or should I record the new stuff in i.e. 24/96 and transfer the old material in the same resolution myself? Or can I record at 24/96 and keep the old stuff at 16/44.1 and let the mastering engineer do the best she can? Or do you have any suggestions?
